    Position Description

    The City of Tolleson is seeking experienced individuals interested to join our Parks and Recreation Department as Recreation Program Specialist. This role involves delivering high-quality recreational programming for the City. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, scheduling, directing, coordinating, and supervising a diverse range of recreation programs such as After School and Summer Recreation Programs, Community Events, Exercise and Adult Sports, Volunteer Programs, Youth Sports Programs, and other related activities. Additional duties include planning, promoting, and presenting special events, competitions and various activities at parks and recreational facilities. Candidates should be prepared to take on other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Parks and Recreation Department.

    Qualifications

    High School Diploma or GED and Three (3) years of related experience in assigned area of responsibility; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. The ability to lead a recreation/afterschool program such as arts & crafts or sport activities. Responsible for developing and supervising recreation/out-of-school programming such as arts and crafts or games. Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License, valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Level 1, and the ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications upon hire. Must be able to work evenings, outdoors and weekends.

    Desired Experience

    Associate degree in recreation or like field and/or 4 years' experience in recreation programming. Candidate will have the ability to perform leadership recreation work in a lead capacity or in charge of a program area. The position serves in a lead capacity over part-time Recreation Aides and volunteers and works independently under the general supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Director.
