Sr. Software Engineer

**Job Description**

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

**Responsibilities**

The Data Hub group is a part of Opower organization at Oracle Energy and Water business unit. It is a cross-functional team of application developers and big data engineers who work together on a cutting edge product that allows us to process hundreds of gigabytes of data provided by our utility customers. We use utility data and behavioral science to help people save energy through a comprehensive experience across various communication channels and a modern web experience. Our platform needs to continue to scale to serve even more customers and provide increased flexibility with the communications we send. These represent big challenges that will require critical thinking and innovative engineering.

**Job Description**

As a software engineer, you will work in an agile development environment to learn and collaborate with other engineers on building, maintaining and supporting batch and stream data processing pipelines. You will help us build data lake solution and comprehensive API to meet data needs of our products and services. It includes owning and building new features as well as maintaining existing system and components running on production.

While you're helping us build world-class software that reduces electricity consumption and helps further decarbonize our energy economy, we will help support your growth into a well-rounded software engineer and business contributor.

Our tech stack is primarily Java, Dropwizard, MySQL and Oracle DBaaS. If you have experience with those technologies, that's a plus.

**Responsibilities**

+ Contribute to our data ingest pipeline and core APIs exposed by the team’s owned microservices

+ Use test-driven development to ensure all code is thoroughly tested using Junit and Cucumber

+ Triage, troubleshoot, and fix bugs at Spring Batch jobs and Dropwizard services

+ Own new features for our products, and create functional and technical design documents to ensure work is completed efficiently while fulfilling all requirements

**Requirements**

+ 4+ years of experience in Java

+ Comfortable user of relational databases such as MySQL or Oracle DB

+ Experience with version control system such as Git

+ Experience building applications using any one of frameworks like Dropwizard, Spring Boot, etc

+ Excellent CS and problem-solving fundamentals

+ Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

**Nice-to-haves** :

+ Experience building reliable pipelines for terabyte scale datasets

+ Hands-on experience on ETL and data ingest pipelines

+ Experience in GraphQL

+ Understanding monitoring and alerting best practices for distributed applications

+ Track record of solving complex problems independently as well as in collaboration with others

+ Knowledge of Unix

+ Experience with one or more testing frameworks
