Responsibilities Duties of this position include: Perform skilled journeyman power system electronic technician work involving troubleshooting, assembling, maintaining, installing, and repairing complex, state-of-the-art digital and analog electronic industrial controls and equipment. Install, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optics and other communication systems such as microwave, data and voice communications, security systems, etc.; Program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) using ladder logic and block type logic; Test and calibrate digital and analog electronic instrumentation. Performs hydroelectric power plant operations including starting, stopping, switching, hazardous energy control, and load/voltage control; Operate and uses a variety of equipment, tools, and machinery such as, electronic/electrical analyzing equipment, pneumatic tools, forklifts, motorized man-lifts, and light trucks. PHYSICAL EFFORT Exerts moderately heavy physical effort which includes lifting and carrying items weighing 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. Climbing ladders and stairs, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, or bending for long periods of time may be required in performing duties. Duties may also involve working from suspended scaffolding and motorized man-lifts at substantial heights and working in closed restricted quarters and confined spaces. WORKING CONDITIONS The work is accomplished in and around dams, power plants, and related facilities with exposure to high levels of noise, moving parts, hazardous materials, and electrical hazards. Work is also performed outside under prevailing weather and terrain conditions. Some work assignments are performed in confined spaces, closed, and restricted quarters, and at substantial heights. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is a journey-level Electronic Technician (Power System) position and is an occupation for which a 4-year (8,000) apprenticeship program has been established between the Bureau of Reclamation, UC Region, and the Department of Labor. Applicants should have completed a formal apprentice program directly related to electronic technician, controls and instrumentation technician, meter and relay technician; or possess journey-level electronic technician experience supplemented by formal training and college level/technical course work (military or technical trade schools) or extensive on-the-job training which demonstrates knowledge of and experience troubleshooting, assembling, maintaining, installing, and repairing complex, state-of-the-art digital and analog electronic industrial controls and equipment typically found in hydroelectric power plants. You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
