Summary This position is located in the Primary Care Medicine Clinic at Phoenix Indian Medical Center within Ambulatory Services. The incumbent serves as the Employee Health/Team Support Nurse Practitioner. As a licensed independent medical staff provider, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive direct care to ambulatory patients in Primary Care and supports the Employee Health Program. Responsibilities Works as the Employee Health NP, assisting Employee Health RNs with orders and assessments for employees Provides comprehensive direct care to ambulatory patients in the adult-based Primary Care clinic, including health status evaluation and education, diagnostic assessment, preventative care, same day/urgent care, treatment, care coordination, and follow-up Utilizes national standards of care and nationally accepted clinical guidelines within an evidence based framework for managing patient care Works as a team support NP to the primary care providers, with a focus on coaching and consulting with other nurses to further ambulatory professional nursing practice Responsible for comprehensive evaluation, management, and follow-up of chronic and acute conditions in the Ambulatory Care setting, including complex co-morbid conditions like Hypertension, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, Obesity, auto-immune disorders, and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. Education: Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Area of specialties for positions may include, but are not limited to: Acute Care, Anesthesia, Geriatric, Midwifery, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory or other specialties identified for the position. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Licensure Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-11: Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from a professional Nurse Practitioner program OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level utilizing professional nursing principles and procedures and extensive clinical experience in practitioner specialty setting. Examples Include: Within the ambulatory care area, the incumbent provides independent diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic nursing and medical services for patients of varying complexity and advanced nature utilizing advanced clinical and analytical skills. The range of services provided includes health status evaluation and education, diagnostic assessment, preventative care, same day/urgent care, treatment, care coordination, and follow-up. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-12: 1 year of specialized experience as Nurse Practitioner equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level responsible for comprehensive evaluation, management and follow-up of chronic and acute conditions in practitioner specialty setting. Examples Include: Makes a diagnosis by: utilizing critical thinking in the diagnostic process; synthesizing and analyzing the collected data; formulates a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results; establishes priorities to meet the health and medical needs of the individual, family, or community. Works as a nurse practitioner in an outpatient setting. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement.
