About the Department/College

The Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) is housed in the Department of Clinical Psychology in the College of Education and is located on Northern Arizona University's North Valley Campus in Phoenix, Arizona. The program is APA accredited-on-contingency and trains students toward a doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD degree) that is license eligible. Currently, the student body is close to 200 graduate students with eleven core faculty members.

About the Position

The Department of Clinical Psychology is inviting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in the PsyD program in Clinical Psychology. The position starts as early as January 2025 or when the position is filled. The position is a 10-month academic year position (August through May) with opportunities for summer teaching.

The faculty member hired for this position will teach graduate courses to students enrolled in the PsyD program at the North Valley campus in Phoenix. Successful candidates will have a passion for, and skill in providing, high-quality clinical care, as well as graduate-level teaching, clinical supervision, and mentoring of PsyD students.

Responsibilities Include:

Teaching and Advising

• Teach, in-person, graduate clinical psychology classes for the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
• Assist in recruiting, retaining, and advising doctoral students in Clinical Psychology.
• Direct graduate student clinical research projects.

Service

• Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the profession (i.e. by serving on committees)
• Work collaboratively with behavioral health service agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for clinical psychology students as needed.
• Assist in course and program planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

North Valley/Phoenix based, full time, 10-month, non-tenure track position, starting as early as January 2025, or when filled. Summer teaching opportunities possible.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or in a closely related area of Psychology. Candidates who are ABD are also encouraged to apply and will be considered with the condition that their doctoral degree is completed within the first year of appointment.
• Instructional Experience (can include college teaching, teaching assistantship, workshops or seminars).
• A record that demonstrates a contribution to student success through effectiveness in teaching and other student-related responsibilities or the promise of such effectiveness if the candidate has no prior teaching experience.
• Eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of an APA accredited program in clinical psychology.
• Earned a doctorate in clinical psychology by December 2024.
• Two or more years of relevant teaching experience in the scientific foundation area of clinical psychology (can be teaching assistantship etc.).
• Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students.
• Experience or strong interest in working with graduate students on research projects.
• Demonstrated efficacy in working effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
• Experience working in an educational setting that emphasizes student populations from a variety of backgrounds.
• Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with department chairs, other program directors/coordinators, faculty, staff, students, and associated members of the professional community.
• Evidence of a strong psychologist identity, and an active involvement in related professional associations.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Arizona.

• Understands best practices related to clinical training.
• Interacts and communicates successfully with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of backgrounds.
• Acts in a way that embodies the mission, vision, and values of NAU and the College of Education.
• Maintains ethical behavior and the ability to demonstrate ethical decision making related to training concerns.
• Communicates ideas and information effectively in both verbal and written form.
• Knowledge of local and national psychologist training and licensing requirements.
• Utilizes technology effectively to support student learning and program processes.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range begins at $67,500. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the https://nau.edu/university-policy-library/conditions-of-faculty-service/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
