• This position is posted as Aquatic Center Operations Coordinator, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Event Coordinator, Senior.

Job Description

Coordinates day-to-day operations of the NAU Wall Aquatic Center including hiring and supervision of student and part-time staff, daily space and resource scheduling, revenue collection, and coordinating internal and external aquatic center programs. Plans, develops, and implements the full scope of the AquaJacks Swim School including staff recruitment, training, and program format

Resolves problems and issues related to aquatic center programming or staffing and makes recommendations to department management on methods to improve operations in the facility and other areas under NAU Campus Services and Activities. Works both independently with the Assistant Director and Specialized Equipment Coordinator to make operational decisions while also providing input into the departmental decision-making process.

Maintains aquatic strategic plans, standard operating procedures, and budgets and ensures relevant support staff adheres to institutional policies. Coordinates campus programs and events that utilize NAU facilities to ensure effective service is provided to all members of the campus community. Works with events management staff and other campus personnel to provide building access and facility booking for campus programs.

Staff Recruitment, Training, & Development - 25%

• Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, and continual evaluation of Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, Student Managers and Master's Coach positions.
• Foster a safe working and learning environment for student staff through comprehensive training, and constructive communication.
• Coordinate planning, training, execution, and monitoring of risk management protocols and best practice related to specific aquatic service areas.
• Responsible for all aspects of the American Red Cross Certification courses, both aquatic- and land-based classes (including but not limited to: Lifeguard Training, LGI Training, WSI Training, CPR and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid courses).
• Assist and serve as back up for operational management at Aquatic Center including regular Pool Operator coverage to ensure proper facility disinfection each week.
• Assist in development and maintenance of a risk management plan at the Aquatic Center.

Program Development & Coordination - 25%

• Oversee the aquatic facility's regular programs and special events including the NAU AquaJacks swim program, community swim blocks, facility use contracts with outside organizations, and special event setup and takedown.
• Work with Assistant Director to schedule and market programs and events.
• May require working early mornings, evenings and weekends.
• Manages and tracks key tasks and workloads across assigned area to ensure that they are assigned correctly, and that work is distributed evenly.

Marketing and Administrative Support - 25%

• Primary point of contact for marketing and promotion of services and programs in the Aquatic Center including monitoring and creating content for social media networks and website page updates.
• Primary customer service point of contact for general public inquiries, AquaJacks Swim Program communications, and other aquatic center programs and events.
• Processes internal and external group facility reservation requests, manages facility use agreements, and tracks revenue collections and deposits.
• Works with the Assistant Director to Monitor program budget allocations and expenditures including staffing expenses and fixed asset costs.
• Understands and applies knowledge of appropriate handling of university campus operations information.
• Collect, update, and analyze participant experience data to ensure access to accurate and timely information.

Facility Management Support - 20%

• Helps plan, track, and monitor physical environments and equipment to support a quality experience.
• Assist as needed with facility maintenance tasks in the aquatic center and other buildings managed by the Campus Services and Activities department.

Other - 5%

• Participate in university wide committees and work groups in support of advancing University goals and mission.
• Other duties as assigned to support department and division vision, objectives, and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Credentials: CPR, AED and First Aid (or obtain within first 60 days of employment)

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid AZ Driver's license.
• Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator, American Red Cross LGIT, WSIT, CPRI.
• Experience onboarding and managing a large part-time staff of certified lifeguards and water safety instructors.
• Experience marketing and managing a community swim program.

Salary

Salary range begins at $51,085. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

• The working environment is primarily indoors in a university-operated aquatic facility.
• The facility is open 100+ hours per week and the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for all pool programs, staffing, and general operations.
• There will be some exposure to industry standard disinfecting pool chemicals as well as other facility cleaning products.
