Dominican Hospital (a member of Dignity Health) is a 222-bed facility that offers a wide range of services to residents of California’s Central Coast. With 24/7 emergency care, comprehensive care in cardiac, orthopedics, oncology, women’s and children’s services, we continue to lead the region in medical innovation and excellence in healthcare.
**Comprehensive Care**
Dominican offers emergency services and is a Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. Dominican’s services include the only comprehensive Cancer Center in Santa Cruz County, a Total Joint Replacement program, and advanced neurological and endoscopic services. Dominican regularly receives ‘A’ grades for hospital safety from Leapfrog Group, and has received national recognition for superior patient safety, cardiac care, and stroke treatment from Healthgrades, a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
As Santa Cruz County’s heart attack (STEMI) receiving center, Dominican Hospital provides cutting edge cardiac care. The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.
Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.
**In The Community**
Beyond care inside the hospital, Dominican is dedicated to the health and wellness of the Santa Cruz community.
Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic, a tattoo removal program, and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition, and in accordance with our mission, Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community, including children and adults, students, seniors, and the homeless population. Dominican also has received several awards for environmental excellence.
**Responsibilities**
+ Manages the resources and daily activities of a nursing department while ensuring environmental factors support high standards of patient care. Assists in the training and development of new and existing staff members. Creates and maintains an environment that is conducive to learning transfer. Coordinates the activities of the unit for each shift and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Provides patient care as needed.
+ Schedules nursing staff to specific shifts, taking into account past utilization trends. Measures employee performance. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members.
+ Coordinates the activities of the unit during a particular shift and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff.
+ Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
+ Provides nursing care to patients on an as needed basis.
+ Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
+ Understanding of the business value of diverse perspectives and opinions and ability to understand, appreciate and employ the unique contributions of associates of varied cultures, nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, genders, ages, points of view, etc.
+ Knowledge of and ability to use industry standards, evidence-based practice and policies and procedures relevant to function and organization.
+ Knowledge of the factors contributing to quality patient care, and the ability to influence these factors in a positive way.
+ Knowledge of healthcare policies for all clinical practices and applicable laws and regulations governing proper clinical practice; ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations.
+ Knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately in both clinical and non-clinical situations.
**Qualifications**
**Requirements:**
+ Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience and one (1) year of leadership experience.
**Education:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience. Magnet Hospital: BSN required.
**Licensure:**
+ Registered Nursing License (RN) in state of practice
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Associtation
+ other credentials or credential modules may be required.
**Pay Range**
$78.27 - $99.92 /hour
