Job Overview:

The Shredder Operator in our Spoke NA1 metals recycling plant located in Mesa, Arizona is responsible for safely and efficiently operating shredding equipment to process various types of waste materials, including plastics, metals, and other recyclable materials. The operator ensures the shredded materials meet quality standards and maintains the equipment in good working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shredding Operation:
• Operate and monitor shredder machines to break down materials into smaller, manageable sizes.
• Adjust machine settings and parameters as necessary to optimize performance and material output.
• Ensure the consistent and efficient flow of materials into the shredder for processing.

2. Material Handling:
• Load and unload materials for shredding, ensuring proper handling to prevent contamination or damage.
• Inspect incoming materials for quality and suitability for processing.

3. Quality Control:
• Inspect shredded material to ensure it meets specified quality standards and is free from contaminants.
• Report any discrepancies or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor for troubleshooting and resolution.

4. Equipment Maintenance:
• Conduct regular checks and routine maintenance on the shredder equipment (e.g., cleaning, lubrication, tightening parts) to ensure optimal functionality.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs when necessary, and
report more significant issues to the maintenance team.

5. Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to self and coworkers.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during operation.
• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

6. Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of materials processed, machine operation, and any issues encountered during the shift.
• Document daily production and equipment inspection reports.

7. Teamwork:

• Collaborate with other team members and departments to maintain a smooth workflow.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers regarding operational issues, material flow, and equipment status.
The ideal candidate will foster and develop a work environment that promotes trust, teamwork, performance, quality, and safety.

Qualifications:

• Education:

o High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

• Experience:

o Previous experience as a shredder operator or in a recycling plant environment is preferred but not required.
o Experience with industrial machinery, material handling, or maintenance is required.
o Forklift certification is a must.

• Skills and Abilities:

o Strong understanding of machinery operation, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.
o Ability to troubleshoot simple mechanical problems.
o Physical ability to handle heavy materials and work in a physically demanding environment.
o Good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
o Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Working Conditions:

• This position requires working in a factory or outdoor environment with exposure to noise, dust, and other environmental factors.
• The operator may be required to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on plant operation schedules.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
• Standing, walking, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.
